Storytelling has always been an effective sustainable way of communication

ผู้ที่นิยมสุนทรพจน์ดี ๆ คงสังเกตได้ว่าความประทับจากการฟังนั้นจะคงอยู่ในใจเราแม้เวลาจะผ่านไปนานนับปี เคล็ดลับก็คือเรื่องที่ฟังนั้นมีชีวิต มีความจริง และตัวตนของผู้ฟังหรือตัวตนของคนที่เขาอยากเป็นอยู่ในนั้นด้วย  เมื่อท่านฟังปาฐกถาของอดีตประธานโรตารีสากลพิชัย รัตตกุล ท่านได้เรื่องเล่าดี ๆ กลับบ้านด้วย โรตารีมีเรื่องเล่ามากมาย เลือกเรื่องที่ท่านชอบ เล่าให้ผู้ที่กระหายการฟัง ทำได้เช่นนั้นท่านได้ปฏิบัติหน้าที่โรแทเรียนที่ดี และร่วมสร้างความเข้มแข็งให้แบรนด์โรตารี

การเล่าเรื่องมีบทบาทในการทำสุนทรพจน์ให้โดดเด่นน่าฟังมานาน และบทบาทของเรื่องเล่าจะมีมากยิ่งขึ้นสำหรับโรตารีจากนี้เป็นต้นไป การนำเสนอตัวเลขหรือบทความทางวิชาการนั้นจะเป็นไปโดยอัตโนมัติเมื่อสิ่งที่เราพูดสร้างความประทับใจแก่ผู้ฟัง เขาจะกระตือรือร้นไปหาข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมเองซึ่งทำได้ไม่ยากนักในปัจจุบัน ดังนั้นเมื่อมีโอกาสที่ท่านในฐานะผู้นำจะได้พูดในที่ชุมชนกับผู้คนจำนวนมาก ขอให้นำเรื่องราวดี ๆ สอดแทรกในปาฐกถาหรือสุนทรพจน์ของท่านด้วย

สาเหตุที่เราต้องให้ความสำคัญกับการเล่าเรื่องก็เพราะ
1. เรื่องเล่านั้นจำง่าย
เมื่อนำเอาข้อเท็จจริงและข้อมูลต่าง ๆ มาบรรจุในรูปแบบเรื่องเล่าแล้ว ไม่เพียงแต่ผู้ฟังจะสนใจฟังเรื่องที่ท่านเล่า แต่ผู้ฟังจะสามารถจดจำเรื่องทั้งหมดหรือเกือบทั้งหมดได้ดีกว่าวิธีนำเสนอตัวเลขข้อมูลเปล่า ๆ นักพูดโรแทเรียนหลายท่านกระตือรือร้นมากในการนำเสนอข้อเท็จจริงที่น่าสนใจ โดยไม่คิดถึงการสร้างสภาวะแห่งความสนใจขึ้นมาก่อน ดังนั้นไม่ว่าท่านจะให้ข้อมูลที่น่าสนใจเพียงใด หากท่านดึงผู้ฟังไม่อยู่แล้ว ข้อมูลที่ให้ก็จะเปล่าประโยชน์ไป
2. เรื่องเล่าเป็นประโยชน์ในอนาคต
ในเมื่อเรื่องเล่าจดจำง่าย ผู้ฟังก็สามารถใช้ประโยชน์ได้เมื่อเจอเหตุการณ์ใกล้เคียงกันในอนาคต หากท่านติดอาวุธให้กับผู้ฟังด้วยเรื่องเล่าดี ๆ ที่จดจำง่าย เขาก็สามารถนำเรื่องนั้นไปเล่าต่อหรือนำไปปรับใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันได้ เขาอาจเป็นสมาชิกมุ่งหวังของสโมสรที่อาจใช้เรื่องเล่าของท่านตัดสินใจในอนาคตว่าจะเป็นสมาชิกสโมสรโรตารีดีหรือไม่
3. เรื่องเล่าสร้างแรงบันดาลใจ
การเป็นโรแทเรียน ท่านมีหน้าที่ในการดึงดูดผู้คนให้รู้จักและรักองค์กรของเรา ท่านต้องป้อนข้อมูลให้กับสมาชิกใหม่ หรือผู้ร่วมทำโครงการ และแม้แต่อาสาสมัครที่รับเชิญให้เข้าร่วมทำโครงการบริการของสโมสร  การคุยแต่เรื่องรายละเอียดของงานและหน้าที่อาจทำให้คนเหล่านี้ไม่ใส่ใจเท่าที่ควร แต่หากท่านเล่าเรื่องที่ประทับใจว่าเพราะเหตุใดท่านจึงมาทำงานนี้ ที่เคยทำแล้วเป็นอย่างไร และผลกระทบของงานที่ทำนั้นเกิดประโยชน์มากเพียงใด การผูกเรื่องเล่าแบบนี้จะช่วยสร้างแรงจูงใจคนได้ดีกว่า

As listener who fond of good speech, you might have noticed that the impression remains with you for years.  Secret to such unforgettable speech is the story that contain real lives, truth, and it so close to the listener's live. 

Storytelling plays important role in effective speech delivery for long time, it is now playing more important role to the organization of Rotary than ever. The searching for data and information will be carried out by the listeners after their hearing of impressive message. Hence, when you as community leader had the opportunity to speak to the public, please consider adding nice story to your speech.

Storytelling is relevant for Rotary because:

1. Stories are Memorable.

When facts and information are framed by a compelling story, you'll not only hold the attention of your audience, but you'll also make the information presented more memorable. Many Rotarians are so enthusiastic about what they're building that they assume their audience is just as interested. They'll start rattling off the facts without first making an effort to pull in their audience. No matter how compelling your facts are, if your audience isn't invested in what you're saying, all the information will be lost on them. 

2. Stories Travel Further.

Because stories are so memorable, they're easy for listeners to recount in the future. So, if you arm your audience with a good story, they'll be able to communicate the details of  the matter more clearly.  The listeners may also be your potential new members.  Having heard of the story told by you, he will be sometimes in the future use that inspirational story to make up his mind becoming member of your club.

3. Stories Inspire Action.

As a Rotary member, a big part of your role is to move people to like our organization. You have to court new comers, project partners, and even volunteers who are willing to work  with you in futaure projects. Focusing on specifications or detailed descriptions of what you do will be lost on most of your audiences, while a compelling and inspiring story about what you do, why you do it, and how it will make something better will help attract and motivate people.
